Planetarium visit!
Theme: Where in the World?!
This week we traveled to Earth’s largest continent – Asia!. We found the oldest and deepest lake (lake Bikhal in Russia), the highest mountain in the world (Mt. Everest), the Gobi desert, and a sea that has not a living plant or animal and 10x the amount of salt in the ocean – the Dead Sea – all unique to Asia. We learned that 4.75 billion people live on the continent!

First we labeled and colored our maps of Asia…

Then we took a tour through Japan from the eyes of Ms. Emma’s visit in May of 2024. Learning about the origin of Pokemon was particularly exciting for our lovers of the creatures.

We were delighted to explore Hong Kong with our five senses. Elizabeth, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us and the delicious Shu-mai!

Throughout the week we experimented with the ancient techniques of brush painting. Alpha’s learned of the tranquil and simplistic strokes used to create beautiful Sumi-e art. We even watched the laborious process of creating traditional Chinese ink sticks. Then, we created our final versions of Sumi-e painting on panels of soon to be lanterns.

Sabina graciously presented a lesson on the wonders of India and Pakistan. Thank you so much for the amazing treats!
We even got to see how a Saree is traditionally worn!

We also worked hard to bring our Alebrijes to life by adding color!

And continued adding details to our Maasai collars and Carnival masks…
Math
Ms. Emma’s Math Wizards…
Played math games, practiced addition and subtraction drills, and almost finished all of their math assessments!
Ms. Kim’s Mathletes…
Whelp…these kids were unstoppable…What we thought would last all week, they gobbled up in a DAY! Very little time to use both hands documenting their problem solving this week 😀 We covered some algebraic challenges, some adding frenzies, and counting money! Whew!

ELA
Ms.Kim’s group…
This week we read books that contain elements of adventure! Alphas learned that adventure encompasses all kinds of journeys that put us in unfamiliar territory.
Adventures can face us with physical challenges… or we may face our familiar world in new ways with strange new things… Sometimes new friends can change our lives and put us in vulnerable situations…

Alphas illustrating their balloon adventures…
Ms. Emma’s group…
Shared their saddest day ever, added it to their memory books, tackled trigraphs, learned their final high frequency words for the year, had a spelling check in, played BINGO, and took assessments!
