A great time was had by all the Gammas and Betas on Wednesday. The Betas joined us for some fun Earth Day stations. The Gamma kiddos were awesome hosts, and we enjoyed our time together. We will send home information next week about our upcoming field trip to Barton Springs.
Math
Gamma twos reviewed the hierarchy of quadrilaterals including parallelograms, rhombuses, squares, rectangles, trapezoids and kites. They learned that some quadrilaterals have several names because of their attributes. They also learned about symmetry and had a blast creating a “symmetry selfie” in class. We wrapped up our geometry unit and will be moving to data analysis in week 6. Gamma ones learned about units of capacity (cup, pint, quart, gallon milliliters and liters) and units of weight/mass (ounce, pound, ton, milligram, gram and kilogram). They are currently working on measuring the length of items around the classroom using inches, feet and yards. In week 6, we will cover millimeters, centimeters and kilometers.
ELA
Both Gamma classes have enjoyed finding the theme of stories. This week was especially fun, because we read several Dr. Seuss stories! We read a model persuasive essay and were able to identify the argument/opinion as well as the writer’s supporting arguments and conclusion. Next week, we will begin planning and writing our theme project essays in class.
Book clubs are going great!
Theme
Theme teams put their heads together to create trash sculptures in class this week. Their collaborative and creative thinking was impressive! The groups were especially innovative figuring out how to combine pieces of trash in unique and artistic ways, and finally naming their sculptures.
