3rd/4th: Week of Feb 23

Another successful week in the books for the Gammas. It’s great to be in the final stretch before spring break, and we are proud of our class for finishing strong. There is a lot of fun learning still happening as we end Q3 and begin the month of March. Watch for an email coming soon about signing up for optional spring conferences.

Math

Gamma 2’s were a bunch of smarties this week learning to  simplify fractions by finding the greatest common factor of the numerator and denominator.  I have been very impressed with their work ethic during the math lessons, and it is definitely paying off.  Gamma 1’s aced a check in covering polygons and began learning about  three dimensional shapes (solids). They had fun learning to identify the attributes by completing an art project working with  an array of different boxes including rectangular prisms, triangular pyramids and cylinders.

ELA

Most  book clubs are on track to finish their books by spring break.  They are all working hard to reach this goal.  Those that are finished are putting their heads together to create a plot map of their novel. We continued working on proverbs and enjoyed creating some of our own.  In reading, each group wrote a skit to be acted out that illustrates the relevance and application of a proberb in a real life scenario.  We can’t wait to see these next week.

Theme

We have been blown away by the Gammas’ quarter three theme projects.  We shared a few each day, and plan to finish presenting next week.    What’s impressive is the quality of the research and dedication each student has put into their topic.  It’s always so much fun to share and celebrate their hard work.  So much learning is happening!
