Thank you for sending in all the cool trash. We are excited to turn it into an artist creations next week. Save the date and stay tuned for information about a May 5th field trip to Barton Springs. Next Wednesday, we are going to combine with the Beta class for some fun Earth Day activities!
Math
Gamma twos put their geometry and measurement skills to work this week learning to identify types of triangles – equilateral, isosceles and scalene. They will wrap up geometry next week learning about symmetry and reviewing categories of quadrilaterals. Gamma ones learned about the difference between the customary and metric systems of measurement. They focused on measuring weight and mass as well as converting between units (Ex. 3 lbs. = 48 oz.). They will complete this unit next week by measuring length/distance using both systems of measurement.
ELA
We learned that the theme of a story is the central message or lesson about life that we learn through the characters’ words, thoughts and actions. We enjoyed reading lots of examples. We planned our first persuasive paragraph this week related to “school rules”. This was a lot of fun! Be sure to ask your Gamma which rule they chose. Book clubs are going great!
Theme
Theme teams have been learning and practicing strategies to help them work effectively as a team. They are especially focused on active listening, mutual respect and appreciating each other. This week they learned about trash, and if it’s not recycled or reused, it most likely ends up in a landfill. They played a fun relay game to sort our trash involving scooters and hula hoops. Next week, each group will work together to create trash art. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!
