It was wonderful to have the Gammas back this week. What a fantastic start to the new quarter! Even though we may have been a little tired, we really enjoyed jumping right back into the swing of things.. It was especially cool to see our little tadpoles growing their legs and our radishes getting bigger. We are excited for the new quarter and our new theme…Asia.
Math
Gamma 1’s dove into the world of fractions, learning to recognize fractional parts of a whole. Gamma 2’s jumped right into decimals…reading and writing decimal numbers to the hundredths place and representing decimal numbers on a hundreds grid. We also learned that decimals, fractions and percentages are all related. We wrapped up the week with both Gamma groups practicing their strategic thinking skills with a math pentathlon game. Thank you Ms. Jessica for volunteering to teach our Gammas this important skill.
ELA
We were so proud of our class this week for making thoughtful reflections about 2025 and setting goals for 2026. Each Gamma chose a one word resolution for the new year.. Be sure to ask your Gamma about their word and why they chose it. We are studying figurative language and learning to recognize the different types … similes, metaphors, hyperbole and idioms just to name a few. Last but not least, cursive handwriting got off to a great start this week.
THEME
Kicking off our new Gamma theme this week, we learned to identify some of the countries in Asia. We read an article and saw a video about the Silk Road which we compared to the ancient internet! We discussed the impact of sharing goods and ideas with different areas of the world and how we can benefit from that. The class also had a lot of fun creating their peeps, and is excited to learn more about Asia!
