Gamma Newsletter 2026-2027
Quarter 1 – Week 4: Sept. 7 – 10
It was a great short week in the Gamma class. We hope you all enjoyed a nice, relaxing Labor Day weekend. It’s so exciting to see the friendships that are building in our class. Thank you to all of our families who joined us for Parent Support Night! We loved having the opportunity to connect with you. Your partnership means so much to us!
Math
Gamma ones wrapped up our Place Value unit, and we had some fun along the way! We finished things off with an Amazing Race review. They “traveled” through six different countries, and each stop had a challenge waiting on them. They practiced ordering and comparing numbers, rounding, and writing numbers in standard, word, and expanded form. They worked hard, had a good time, and showed us just how much they’ve learned!
Gamma 2 has been busy reviewing place value with a fun mystery assignment that had everyone thinking and working hard. We also started working with addition using larger numbers and learned how to estimate sums to see if our answers make sense. The Gammas are doing a great job sticking with it and using their problem solving skills!
ELA
We finished publishing our name paragraphs and creating our decorative name tags. We’re excited for you to see their work on display in the hallway soon! The Gammas did a fantastic job on their first writing assignment and worked hard through each step of the writing process.
Reading
We extended our study of characters this week by reading stories with strong characters and thinking about how they respond to conflicts. We are learning that characters often change based on events and experiences. We have read about lots of characters and even compared some of them. The Gammas are really enjoying our read-aloud of The City of Ember. Book clubs are going great, and we are excited to visit the library again next Thursday!
Theme
We learned about the history and meaning of Labor Day this week – a holiday that celebrates and honors workers. It began in the late 1800s when workers came together to ask for better pay, shorter hours, and safer working conditions. We all agreed that Labor Day reminds us to appreciate the hard work people do every day to make our communities a better place. Our spotlight hero was Geronimo (1829–1909). He was an Apache leader and warrior who resisted the expansion of the United States and Mexico into Apache lands. He became known for his determination to protect his people and their homeland. Geronimo is remembered for his courage, leadership, and determination to protect his people and their way of life. We would love some donations of Altoid mint tins!!!!
SEL💛
We are still focusing on self-awareness and using everyday opportunities to remember the importance of this life skill. The Gammas worked in groups to read different real-life scenarios and discuss how the people in each situation used self-awareness and how it helped them. They are also enjoying working on their “Pieces of Me” assignment in class. Be sure to ask your Gamma about it!
