This Week in Alpha…
We learned that one way people take care of their homes is to protect them from the elements! Wood decomposes and people learned that if they mixed minerals into a paste and spread it on their houses, it would help waterproof them, and keep insects from burrowing, and fungus from gobbling it up! So we got busy painting our abodes. We also got excited about the animals that we had on our property! It was a challenge to follow step-by-step instructions, but the rewards were great!
In Language Arts…
This week we started putting our knowledge to work reading CVC words, practicing handwriting, unscrambling Ms. Kim’s mixed-up sentences, and writing our own! We also put together all the elements we found in stories into dioramas!
In Math…
We explored the cardinality of numbers and discovered they follow an A/B pattern of odd and even quantities! Anytime you change the quantity by one, you change its state. We learned how to play the card game “Speed” -which is helping to build up our fluency and flexibility with numerical order, subitizing, and good sportsmanship. We also make lovely fractal trees, in honor of the end of our unit of patterns.
