Gamma Newsletter 2026-2027
Quarter 1 – Week 6: Sept. 21 – 24
We had a learning filled week in the Gamma room! Our donation drive is underway to help the unhoused in our community, and we’re excited to see how our Gammas are coming together to make a difference. Thank you so much for your donations! We had a blast at recess playing Four Corners and enjoyed a special guest speaker who shared his many contributions to our world. Be sure to ask your Gamma about this! It’s hard to believe there are only two more weeks in Q1, and fall break is right around the corner! Watch for a parent conference sign up to come out soon.
Math
Gamma ones learned how to create strip diagrams to represent addition and practiced adding using the standard algorithm. We also started working on strategies for solving word problems, focusing on identifying the key information in each story problem. Our Gammas are building their problem-solving skills and learning to think like mathematicians!
Our Gammas tackled subtraction problems with missing digits at our problem-solving boards! These tricky problems required them to think in new ways and explain their reasoning. We also started digging into word problems, learning how to spot important information, write equations, and figure out whether to add or subtract. They are becoming math detectives as they work to uncover the clues and solve each problem!
ELA
Our Gammas put their sentence-building skills to work this week! We used our knowledge of compound subjects, compound predicates, and compound sentences to combine two sentences into one. The FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) came to the rescue as we learned how coordinating conjunctions connect ideas. Our Gammas are starting to notice the subtle differences in meaning that each conjunction brings to a sentence. Who knew one little word could make such a big difference?
Reading
We’re continuing our exploration of internal and external conflicts in reading! Each Gamma is creating a fun poster showing an example of internal conflict, using the classic angel and devil on the shoulder to represent the different thoughts and choices a character might face. They are having a blast bringing their ideas to life and getting creative with their posters! We’ll finish them up next week, and we can’t wait to see the final results!
Theme
We’re taking a look back at the amazing heroes we learned about in Q1! Each group has been assigned one of our six heroes and is working together to create a final project showcasing their hero’s most important contributions. From Abraham Lincoln and Geronimo to Harriet Tubman, Dolores Huerta, Theodore Roosevelt, and George Washington Carver, our Gammas are getting creative, sharing ideas, and celebrating the impact these people made.

This week, we explored what it means to have good character. We had some great conversations about integrity, responsibility, honesty, and fairness, and took a closer look at the many positive character traits that make each of us unique. Each Gamma highlighted the traits they feel they possess and is now creating a superhero version of themselves based on one of their best character traits. We’re having fun discovering our superpowers and celebrating the amazing qualities that make each of us who we are.
