Wow! This week really flew by. These Gammas impress us every day with the knowledge they have and their eagerness to learn cool new things!
Math
Gamma ones wrapped up multiplication by solving and creating word problems. We will be setting our sights on division next week, but please keep working on memorizing those basic facts. In Gamma 2 we learned about factors and multiples and played “Factor Captor”. Our week was rounded out by learning the rules of divisibility which will help as we tackle long division.
ELA
This week Gammas read several fables and learned the characteristics of a fable. They learned that this type of story has personification, a simple problem, trickery and a moral. In grammar we practiced comparing nouns using comparative and superlative adjectives. Book clubs are also coming along nicely. Be sure to ask them about the books they are reading. On Thursday, we visited the library and several of them checked out new books.
THEME
On Monday, we discussed the directions for the research project and did a few examples together. We talked about next steps in the research project and the teachers demonstrated how to add information to their notecards along with their source on the back. We learned why leaves change color and took a nature walk to discover the types of leaves and classified them as deciduous or coniferous/evergreen. We wrapped up our week by making scientific observations of the many things growing and changing around our classroom and making bird feeders out of pinecones!
