We appreciate the interesting (clean) trash donations and will be collecting for a few more days. Thank you if you’ve already donated. The Gammas have been hard at work so far this quarter, and it is flying by….only 5 ½ weeks left!
Math
Geometry is going great in Gamma 2. This week we reviewed vocabulary and practiced finding the measurement of different types of angles. We concluded our study of lines and angles with a fun “Alphabet Angle” project. Gamma 1’s refined their perimeter skills, including finding the length of a missing side when given the perimeter of a shape. We rounded out the week by learning how to find the area of shapes and applying it to real life by designing dog pens!
ELA
This week in reading, we read lots of text examples written for different purposes. We learned that authors write to persuade, inform and entertain and that there are key words and ideas that show the purpose of a text. The Gammas will extend this by producing a piece of persuasive writing in class next week. Our grammar emphasis was using subject and object pronouns correctly, especially I and me. They rocked it!
Theme
This week, we read and discussed fossil fuels and alternative energy sources. We specifically focused on solar energy and learned how solar cells work. Each theme team worked on creating a solar oven! We can’t wait for a warm, sunny day to “cook” our s’mores. The week wrapped up with team building. Each team came up with a name and logo for their team. Monday, they will create a sign to display their logo along with their group agreements.Coming soon: Information regarding a possible environmentalism related field trip!
