Math This week in math the Betas were introduced to multiplication! We learned that it’s repeated addition and can be represented by arrays. By the end of the week, the Betas were ready to hunt for arrays posted around the room and turn them into multiplication number sentences. To solve the trickier problems, we brought out our manipulatives and built our own arrays to help us skip count. ELA In phonics this week we met the diphthong /oo/. My, how we’ve grown since August! Theme: Where in the World?! This week we headed to the great continent of Africa… We learned where it is and what it’s made of- like DESERT! The Sahara is the world’s largest desert; almost all of the United States could fit inside it! Africa has a tropical jungle in the Congo, and grassy plains (not unlike our grassy plains in Texas) called the savannah, it has big coasts, tall mountains and the world’s longest river: the Nile! 3rd/4th: Week of Apr 20

A great time was had by all the Gammas and Betas on Wednesday.  The Betas joined us for some fun Earth Day stations. The Gamma kiddos were awesome hosts, and we enjoyed our time together.  We will send home information next week about our upcoming field trip to Barton Springs. Math Gamma twos reviewed the hierarchy of quadrilaterals including parallelograms, rhombuses, squares, rectangles, trapezoids and kites.  They learned that some quadrilaterals have several names because of their attributes.  They also learned about symmetry and had a blast creating a “symmetry selfie” in class.  We wrapped up our geometry unit and

2nd: Week of Apr 20

Math This week in math we dove into Graphs & Data! We made a t-chart, several tally charts and bar graphs and we learned about surveys. We surveyed each other on afterschool activities and then each Beta got to create their own survey question to explore. The creativity of these kids is astounding. ELA In phonics this week we met the diphthong /oy/. The spelling patterns for /oy/ are: oi (coin), and oy (toy). Our sight words were: great and means. Nothing quite beats tent city on rainy days! Theme: Where in the World?! We headed to Europe this week!  Visiting the second smallest continent we discovered that the Ural Mountains separate Europe from Asia. And as we detailed our own maps we saw that there are several seas with interesting names that surround a good part of the westward jutting peninsulas. Names such as Caspian Sea, Baltic Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea.. On Tuesday, Eliza (Malin’s mom) visited us to share many interesting facts, cool relics, and delicious treats from Scandinavia.
