2nd: Week of Feb 23

Math This week in math we wrapped up our study of shapes and moved on to fractions – cookie fractions, sandwich fractions and pizza fractions! We learned about halves, thirds, fourths and eighths, as well as equal parts (aka fair shares). We practiced identifying unequal parts, partitioning shapes into equal parts and even wrote fractions. Larry Alert!!! Larry Alert!!! All week, Larry has bothered our classroom with his shenanigans. First, we were missing our table team supplies, then our lamps, then our peace corner pillows, and finally, OUR CHAIRS were switched with Betas’!!! We will DEFINITELY need to create some traps and need your help. Please drop off any recyclables you have to the Alpha classroom on Monday morning. “Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” Even though it was a  short week, our classroom has been full of energy! Students loved exploring proverbs and learning about Confucious.   They had so much fun doing the  dragon dance in the AHB parking lot and learning about its cultural meaning.   Gaga ball has been a huge hit at recess, with students eagerly jumping into the pit for fast-paced fun.  What a great week! 2nd: Week of Feb 16

Math Polygons! Quadrilaterals! Congruent vs similar shapes! This week we also investigated 3D solid figures, identifying their faces, edges and vertices. On Thursday we explored the hallways & gym on a 3D shape hunt! ELA In phonics this week we studied suffixes: er, est, full, less and ly. Our sight words were: become, before, behind, small, long and well. These kids have come so far this year – they are champions! Theme Book clubs are on a roll! Our Frog and Toad girls have finished their book. Meanwhile, the Here’s Hank and Ralph S. Mouse groups are reading their final chapters

Larry Alert!!! Larry Alert!!! We gave Larry back his boot — along with a lot of really kind notes of love and appreciation, and what does he do?  He hid all the composition books from Ms. Kim’s group and put all the math manipulatives into the Language Arts’ shelves, and all the handwriting and fine motor activities into the Math shelves … What are we going to do?!
