Gamma Newsletter 2026-2027

Quarter 1 – Week 2: August 24 – 27

Another super week for the Gammas! We’ve been busy learning, working together, and having lots of fun! A big THANK YOU to Amy, Lorelai’s mom, for spending her morning snapping some fun pictures for us. We appreciate you!

Math

In math, we’ve been diving into place value and learning that the value of a digit depends on the place it holds in our base-ten system. We’ve also been practicing writing numbers in different ways, including standard form, expanded form, and word form. Both Gamma classes had a great time solidifying their learning through games and problem solving challenges.

ELA/Reading

We had our first spelling check on word families and talked about this week’s spelling pattern: short vowels. We practiced a strategy to help us find a “just right” book, which will come in handy next week on P&P. Gammas should be reading a fiction chapter book for their reading logs. Our reading focus is determining character traits and supporting our thinking with evidence from the story. We’ve been having lots of great conversations about what characters are like and how we know!

In writing, we had a blast creating complete silly sentences with subjects and predicates. We also started planning our first paragraph about how we got our names. We can’t wait to see what stories our Gammas have to share!

Theme

In Theme, we dove a little deeper into what it means to be a hero! We talked about the different kinds of risks heroes may take when helping others, including risks to their money, freedom, reputation, and even their safety. We learned about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington Carver and the hardships, challenges, and sacrifices they faced along the way. We also took some time to learn about the amazing contributions of Dolly Parton and the ways she has used her success to help others.

The Gammas had some great conversations about what makes someone a hero and how being a hero doesn’t always mean wearing a cape!

SEL💛

Self-awareness is our focus!

We reviewed what it means to keep everyone’s bucket full and learned that while we each have a bucket, we also have a ladle. Sometimes, without even meaning to, we can dip into someone else’s bucket and take a little away. The best part? We all have a lid, too! We talked about how we can use our lid when someone is trying to empty our bucket and came up with strategies to help protect our feelings and take care of ourselves.

We are loving how self-aware our Gammas already are and can’t wait to see that awareness grow even more!
