Math
This week we completed our math unit on measurement & time! We also took a detour on Tuesday to focus our math minds on some logic puzzles and try our hand at writing story problems to match given answers. It took many attempts but we preserved – with creativity!
ELA
In Phonics this week we finished our study of the syllable: “consonant+le.” Our sight words were: answer, people, and sentence.
Book clubs are charging ahead! Two clubs began new books this week! Our girl group is on their second book of Frog & Toad stories while the Here’s Hank group chose to continue the series with Here’s Hank: A Short Tale about a Long Dog.
In writing we completed the planning stage of our fairytale writing project by mapping out our problem/solution and identifying the moral of our stories. Then we solidified our ideas by verbally sharing our tales. Next week we will begin writing our rough drafts! ✍🏻
Theme
Becoming a knight is not an easy task! Here was our checklist for the week:
- At the beginning of the week our Beta Pages dressed their peeps in knightly tunics, performed a few small physical tasks and partnered up for our strategic game Page in a Palace.
- In the middle of the week the Beta Squires received their own tunics, personalized them with a crest that expressed their individuality, and attempted a messenger game similar to “Telephone” as Squires.
- On Thursday the Squires had their first sword training. We began with a warm up and then practiced our strong stance and wielding our swords slowly and effectively before pairing up. After warming up and practicing wielding our swords carefully, we paired up- one squire “attacking” and one blocking. Just as a new squire would have done in the Middle Ages, we moved very slowly to work on precision. (Well- and to stay safe! 😉)
