Parents Please Note-
Starting Monday, we will meet in the gym at 8:45.
This is where we will meet on Mondays from now on.
The rest of the week we’ll meet in our classroom.
What a whirlwind of a first week! We had fun getting to know each other as we are learning about our new space! We talked about AHB Community – and thought about what a community is and how we can create a great one. We agreed that communities should feel safe for our bodies and our feelings. We sat in new tables teams every day and had fun working together on challenging collaborative activities

In Math…
Ms. Kim’s Mathletes start every year talking, spotting, and creating patterns. Our brains love them. This week we made them with colors, with music, and with movement. We met our light table and learned to play with dice in our class — we roll and trap them. That explains how we’ve managed to keep our tremendous bin of dice from getting lost over the decades.

Meeting the light table…

Making patterns with pattern blocks…
Ms. Emma’s Math Wizards explored estimation! We used our best hypothesis to guess how many items were in several jars. We discussed strategies for estimating, reflected on some very far off guesses, and counted all 120 marbles. At the beginning of the week we focused on decorating our math journals, playing the “Secret Leader” game, and making pictures with shape tiles.
In ELA…
Ms. Kim’s group are super excited about learning to read books. We learned that Language Arts is about taking in and putting out. We take in what people say and we put out through talking the thoughts we have. We take in words we read and we put out words we want to share. There are a lot of things that go into giving and taking and we are going to practice many skills that will help us become better communicators.

Meeting our Handwriting Paper…
Ms. Emma’s Writers and Readers practiced their handwriting by drawing mushrooms and birds using a step by step guide. As we explored the classroom the students were VERY drawn to the “Dragonology” and “Monsterology” books (Which are a part of a fun series of interactive fantasy books).
