4th/5th: Week of May 12

General News

We forgot to pick up your Q4 learning logs! Oops! Please bring those to school on Monday (Thank you!) The Gammas are busy working on POP and we hope to see as many of you as can make it next week for POP and Talent Show! Thank you to parent volunteers who are able to help out with our upcoming building transition!

ELA Update

This week we were focused on creating great informational writing pieces about all of our learning this semester for POP. This is where we really make “the invisible visible” for guests by writing about the behind the scenes efforts that went into reading, researching, and creating this past semester. Gammas chose from a topic that inspired them or that they remembered vividly (5 months is a long time and some things stuck out more than others). It sectioned off beautifully and offered some opportunity for collaborative writing as well. Please make sure you take time to read these write-ups as you peruse the POP displays next week, as they have so much great information and we worked hard on them!

Math Update

We spent the week in Math cleaning up our “Zipper Wonka” math projects to get them polished for POP. We also hosted a math game day, which was loads of fun. The highlight of the week (for one anonymous teacher) was a little performance art activity known as “Mrs. Rogers Yayborhood” If you haven’t heard of it yet, be glad. Be very glad! (haha!) It was an attempt to help promote much needed teambuilding levity during a time of BIG change and we all benefited from the giggles, no matter how “cringy” the costumes! We did many a fun team building challenges with help from Mrs. Rogers. But, not to worry! Mrs. Rogers had a one-way ticket to Bora Bora and will not be back for quite some time. 😀

Theme Update

This week we started our POP committees which is a much loved Gamma tradition. They love the opportunity to take creative control and rearrange the room with visitors in mind. We do this by selecting our top 3 most interesting topics from the semester and sorting into groups. Once grouped up, kiddos design how we will display the content we’ve learned. We have two catchphrases during this time: “make the invisible visible” (all the behind the scenes work we did on our learning and various projects since January) and “dream big, build small” (creating fun, interactive displays for POP visitors to show off our learning). Gamma’s love this time! We see so many amazing projects bloom and beautiful collaborations happen. We are scaled back significantly this year because of the move but we can’t wait to show you what we are creating!
