Worms, radishes, tadpoles…oh my! Our classroom is teeming with life! What a fun week for our Gammas. We have worn many hats these past few days: gardeners, actors, and scientists. To top it all off, we enjoyed an exciting Halloween fair and parade on Thursday. It was so fun to see the cool and creative costumes.
Math
In Gamma 1 we played games to strengthen our knowledge of basic multiplication facts, and then moved up to two by one digit multiplication. They are picking it up quickly! In Gamma 2 we wrapped up our focus on multiplication by completing an in class project that involved designing a resort hotel and purchasing items to furnish the rooms. This involved some heavy duty multiplication and they did a beautiful job.
ELA
Gammas have gotten so good at making connections, and have been sharing some good ones. Our grammar focus this week was adjectives, and we had fun using them to describe some of the many nouns in our school. We practiced locating information in a nonfiction text using text features including diagrams, subtitles, captions and bolded words. On Monday, new book clubs started and reading is underway. If your Gamma needs a new book for P&P, remind them to return the one they have checked out and search for another one.
THEME
Plants were our focus this week, and on Thursday, we planted our pinto beans outside. It will be exciting to watch them grow. We read about what plants need- sunlight, water, soil and carbon dioxide, and that humans and other animals exhale carbon dioxide, and plants give us the oxygen we need. We understand the process of photosynthesis and how green plants contain chlorophyll. We signed a science safety contract and completed a lab that shows how our body exhales carbon dioxide.
SEL
One of the things we talked about this week was how name-calling and put downs affect our classmates. We reminded each other to always think before we speak to make sure that what we say to each other is necessary and kind.
