Góðan dag, Gammas! We are getting more and more comfortable with our classmates, routines, and expectations. We are building our Gamma community of learners where everyone feels safe and ready to take learning risks. This week we finalized and signed our Gamma Agreements and are ready to set sail for adventures in learning and friendship!
Math
We continued our study of place value in standard, word, and expanded form and started comparing and ordering numbers. Gamma 2’s also learned that each digit’s value is 10X more or less than its next door neighbor.
ELA
In reading we are still learning about character traits and how they are more permanent to a character’s personality–and not merely temporary emotions. Gammas started identifying problems in stories and how characters reacted to or solved those. In ELA we reviewed common and proper nouns and added to our bank of personal writing topics. Students picked one topic and started writing about it.
Theme
Gammas were very excited to learn how Vikings dressed by watching a video and adorning their peeps in warm garb fit for the harsh Scandinavian climate. Next we read an article about the construction of Viking longhouses and headed to the gym to measure the dimensions of one. Finally, we split up into small groups to start building our very own with all sorts of materials. Our little Viking peeps will all have cozy homes!
Look on the next few pages for exciting photos from our week! Be sure to ask your Gamma about what’s going on in each one.
