2nd: Week of Sept 1

The Betas were very busy this week! In math, we practiced ordering large numbers – in the hundreds! We also spent a day reviewing tally marks and tallied almost the entire classroom! Finally, at the end of the week we tackled identifying patterns in a series of numbers, using the pattern to determine a skip count rule, and using the rule to continue the series of numbers. K/1st: Week of Sept 1

Our BRAIN is “What’s Inside Me” AGAIN this week… This week, we learned a lot about our neocortex! Alphas learned that one of the memories that stays with us the longest – stored in our temporal lobes – is our sense of smell. We told stories about a memory triggered by a scent from our sniffer-work. Alphas used their occipital lobes to sort objects by discrete attributes…and we used our frontal lobes to pay close attention to different tasks, like listening, or looking carefully! Alphas used their parietal lobes to adjust their body movements to be successful with a task!

7th/8th: Week of Aug 25

Math: 7th graders added and subtracted rational numbers this week and started on their collaborative mural. 8th graders learned this difference between a rational and irrational number as well as practiced classifying numbers into sets. Algebra finished their first unit with infinite and no solution equations, proportions, and literal equations. The Algebra check in will be Tuesday! ELA: Our readers took a deep dive into our novel, Uprising, as we continued our journey into the immigration movement of the industrial age. General News We’re all still adjusting to the new schedule of upper school! This week we added in flex time, where the kiddos rotate through the upper school teachers after lunch for different short blocks where they play math games, learn technology skills, and talk about social emotional learning topics. We have a new Delta joining our school family next week! Welcome Lia to the year 2 group! Reading/Writing Update This week in ELA we introduced a new method of going over our homework where we check everything together in class. The kiddos seemed to really enjoy this! Though time

3rd/4th: Week of Aug 25

Góðan dag, Gammas! We are getting more and more comfortable with our classmates, routines, and expectations. We are building our Gamma community of learners where everyone feels safe and ready to take learning risks. This week we finalized and signed our Gamma Agreements and are ready to set sail for adventures in learning and friendship! Math We continued our study of place value in standard, word, and expanded form and started comparing and ordering numbers. Gamma 2’s also learned that each digit’s value is 10X more or less than its next door neighbor. ELA In reading we are still learning
