Math 7th graders spent all week working on building cardstock robots out of nets and then calculating the surface area of each shape to determine how much foil they need to cover their robot. The 8th graders also jumped into surface area this week. They learned formulas to find the lateral and total surface area of prisms. The Algebra students finished learning how to factor. General News We will be out of the building traipsing around Austin on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week visiting houses of worship. We’ll be visiting a Buddhist temple, Hindu temple, and Catholic church on Tuesday. On Wednesday we’ll visit a Jewish synagogue and a Muslim mosque. The Hindu temple and Muslim mosque have requested “modest attire” (no bare shoulders or knees) so remember to wear long pants and your AHB t-shirts on both days. Math 7th graders continued the surface area unit with lessons over finding the surface area of triangular prisms and pyramids on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday they began building robots out of paper nets with the goal of calculating how much foil is needed to wrap the robot. The 8th graders worked on their study guide for the Pythagorean Theorem unit on Tuesday and Wednesday, and took their check-in on Thursday. Math The 7th graders took their check-ins over the area and similarity unit on Monday and Tuesday. Students who finished early worked on completing and catching up on old projects. On Wednesday, they started the surface area unit with a lesson over nets. As a challenge problem students had to draw all 11 nets of a cube. Thursday they found the surface area of rectangular prisms. The 8th graders started applying the Pythagorean Theorem this week. They solved word problems on Monday and Tuesday, calculated diagonal lengths on a coordinate plane on Wednesday, and solved problems involving 3D figures on
