Math: Da Sprouts started their new unit on percents this week. They learned a percent is always out of 100, how to model percents, and how to convert percents to fractions to decimals. As an extension activity students had to shade in a design on 9 different boxes only using red and blue. Math: Da Sprouts were introduced to rates this week. They practiced calculating rates and using rates to make comparisons. On Wednesday they calculated the speed at which they can chew bubble gum! They calculated and compared their chewing speed for comfortable, large, and small sized chomps. They ended the week by practicing measurement conversions. EverShrooms spent Monday and Tuesday calculating the percent change of household items from the 1970s to the 2010s. Wednesday they reviewed the unit with a find and fix it. Math: Monday, Da Sprouts used ratios to predict how many of each color fruit loop was in a box. They were given a pile of fruit loops, but only needed 20 fruit loops for the lab. They were able to enjoy and eat the rest of the pile. On Tuesday we continued using ratios, but now to create tables and graphs. Wednesday they practiced ratios with a solve and color. EverShrooms continued to work on solving proportions this week and were introduced to how to calculate percent change using proportions. Math: On Wednesday we took a break from our regularly scheduled programming to practice our problem solving skills. All students worked in groups to solve clues and build a turkey out of marshmallows, toothpicks and gumdrops. During the rest of the week, Da Sprouts started their new unit on ratios and practiced using ratios to make comparisons. EverShrooms reviewed percents and worked on percent application problems. Polar Bears continued to work on their linear equation quilt. Mountain Lizards continued to practice system of equations then moved onto solving system of inequalities. Math: Da Sprouts spent Monday and Tuesday in two groups creating a theme park on Mount Olympus in order to practice integer operations. Wednesday they completed a review to prepare for the check-in they took Thursday. EverShrooms read If You Hopped Like a Frog by David M Schwartz as a class at the beginning of the week, then used the ratios at the end of the book to solve proportions. One student calculated if she had a tongue like a chameleon it would be the length of 3 iPads. On Wednesday they had a lesson on Unit Rates. They ended
