Gamma

We appreciate  the interesting (clean)  trash donations and will be collecting for a few more days. Thank you if you’ve already donated.  The Gammas have been hard at work so far this quarter, and it is flying by….only 5 ½ weeks left! Math Geometry is going great in Gamma 2.  This week we reviewed  vocabulary and practiced finding the measurement of different types of angles.  We concluded our study of lines and angles with a fun “Alphabet Angle” project. Spring was in the air this week in the Gamma room, and April Fool’s Day was a lot of fun. Both Gamma math groups enjoyed outdoor learning this week in math, and our class garden is thriving! This quarter is off to a great start. Math Gamma ones figured out elapsed time using clocks and a number line strategy. They also started learning about perimeter. They applied it by measuring the perimeter of some of our playground areas in the AHB parking lot.  Gamma twos used their knowledge of lines and angles to design a robot with certain geometrical attributes.

It was a pleasure to have our Gammas return to class this week.  They enjoyed seeing  friends and sharing spring break experiences with each other.  We also eased right back into academics with some fun activities. This quarter is going to be so much fun! Math Gamma 1’s reviewed multiplication, division and problem solving by working on a math mystery.  We  also started off our measurement unit by practicing telling time on analog clocks.  Gamma 2’s reviewed fractions and dove right into geometry by learning the first of many vocabulary terms including point, line, plane, perpendicular, parallel and intersecting. Another successful week in the books for the Gammas. It’s great to be in the final stretch before spring break, and we are proud of our class for finishing strong. There is a lot of fun learning still happening as we end Q3 and begin the month of March. Watch for an email coming soon about signing up for optional spring conferences.  Math  Gamma 2’s were a bunch of smarties this week learning to  simplify fractions by finding the greatest common factor of the numerator and denominator.  I have been very impressed with their work ethic during the math lessons, and

“Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” Even though it was a  short week, our classroom has been full of energy! Students loved exploring proverbs and learning about Confucious.   They had so much fun doing the  dragon dance in the AHB parking lot and learning about its cultural meaning.   Gaga ball has been a huge hit at recess, with students eagerly jumping into the pit for fast-paced fun.  What a great week!
