Gamma

3rd/4th: Week of Apr 27

It was a great week in the Gamma room.  Although the rain has been great, we are hoping for a sunny, hot day soon to test our solar ovens.  We look forward to our field trip to Barton Springs on Tuesday!  Thanks for filling out the chaperone/driver survey! Math Gamma twos began learning about ways to organize data including frequency tables, dot plots and stem & leaf plots.  They enjoyed collecting data about the favorite animals of AHB students.  Next week, they will organize their results using a stem and leaf plot. They will be able to create graphs to

A great time was had by all the Gammas and Betas on Wednesday.  The Betas joined us for some fun Earth Day stations. The Gamma kiddos were awesome hosts, and we enjoyed our time together.  We will send home information next week about our upcoming field trip to Barton Springs. Math Gamma twos reviewed the hierarchy of quadrilaterals including parallelograms, rhombuses, squares, rectangles, trapezoids and kites.  They learned that some quadrilaterals have several names because of their attributes.  They also learned about symmetry and had a blast creating a “symmetry selfie” in class.  We wrapped up our geometry unit and

Thank you for sending in all the cool trash.  We are excited to turn it into an artist creations next week.  Save the date and stay tuned for information about a May 5th field trip to Barton Springs.  Next Wednesday, we are going to combine with the Beta class for some fun Earth Day activities! Math Gamma twos put their geometry and measurement skills to work this week learning to identify types of triangles – equilateral, isosceles and scalene.  They will wrap up geometry next week learning about symmetry and reviewing categories of quadrilaterals.  Gamma ones learned about the difference

We appreciate  the interesting (clean)  trash donations and will be collecting for a few more days. Thank you if you’ve already donated.  The Gammas have been hard at work so far this quarter, and it is flying by….only 5 ½ weeks left! Math Geometry is going great in Gamma 2.  This week we reviewed  vocabulary and practiced finding the measurement of different types of angles.  We concluded our study of lines and angles with a fun “Alphabet Angle” project. Gamma 1’s refined their perimeter skills, including  finding the length of a missing side when given the perimeter of a shape.

3rd/4th: Week of Mar 30

Spring was in the air this week in the Gamma room, and April Fool’s Day was a lot of fun. Both Gamma math groups enjoyed outdoor learning this week in math, and our class garden is thriving! This quarter is off to a great start. Math Gamma ones figured out elapsed time using clocks and a number line strategy. They also started learning about perimeter. They applied it by measuring the perimeter of some of our playground areas in the AHB parking lot.  Gamma twos used their knowledge of lines and angles to design a robot with certain geometrical attributes.
