Academic Excellence with Heart

Small Classes, Big Impact

At AHB, your child’s teachers design curriculum around the unique needs and interests of each class every year. With a maximum of 12 students per teacher, your child receives the personalized support needed to truly master each objective.

Our project-based approach and shortened school day keep students deeply engaged and energized. Because time isn’t wasted on long transitions or classroom management, every minute at AHB is focused on meaningful learning and discovery.

Learning With Purpose

At AHB Community School, your child’s sense of self-worth comes from meaningful accomplishments: completing a project, solving a problem, or supporting a friend — not from a number on a page. That’s why we don’t assign traditional grades.

Instead, we use an outcome-based system that clearly shows which learning objectives your child has mastered and where they may need more practice. This transparent approach fosters open communication between you, your child, and their teacher, allowing everyone to collaborate on next steps for challenge or review.
By removing the pressure of grades, our teachers can focus on authentic learning experiences and provide rich, descriptive feedback. The result? Studies show greater intrinsic motivation, stronger self-worth, and deeper academic growth.

Building Math Confidence

Math at AHB is engaging, purposeful, and designed to make learning meaningful for your child. They’ll strengthen logical reasoning, problem-solving, and real-world application skills through a mix of game play, project-based learning, and traditional practice. With small class sizes and a supportive environment, your child will develop true confidence along with strong math skills.

AHB’s math program follows the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) while giving teachers the flexibility to use a variety of resources tailored to each class. As an accredited school, AHB also offers middle school students the opportunity to earn high school credit in Algebra I and Geometry—ensuring your child is both challenged and well prepared for what comes next.

Language Arts Journey

At AHB Community School, your child’s Language Arts studies grow alongside their development. A love of reading and discussing great books is nurtured at every age. In the early years, students build strong foundations through phonics, handwriting, and other essential skills. As they advance, the focus shifts: your child will read to learn and use writing as a tool for deeper thinking and expression. Grammar and spelling strengthen fundamentals, while most time is spent analyzing rich texts and writing thoughtful essays that often connect to the school’s interdisciplinary Theme units.

At every level, reading and writing objectives align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and teachers have the flexibility to choose resources that best fit each class — keeping Language Arts at AHB both rigorous and inspiring.

Science, Social Studies, Discovery

Your child’s curiosity drives their learning at AHB. Each quarter, classes explore a new Theme, alternating between science and social studies, that becomes the foundation for discovery, discussion, and creativity.

Every afternoon, students dive deeply into their Theme studies through group projects, problem solving, and hands-on exploration. AHB values depth over breadth and emphasizes the process of learning rather than memorization. This project-based approach keeps your child engaged and excited, while research shows it builds stronger comprehension, critical thinking, and long-term academic success.

Theme Map Cycle and Vertical Alignment

Theme map is current per 2023-24 school year. Annual adjustments may be made based on current events or class events or class needs. Note that quarters rotate between a science (generally Q1 & 3) and social studies (generally Q2 & 4) focus.

OUR GRADUATES

A Love of Learning That Lasts

Many students lose their love of learning under prep-school pressure long before they reach high school. Your child deserves an education that keeps curiosity alive, challenges them through project-based learning, and nurtures confidence alongside achievement. The results speak for themselves: year after year, AHB eighth graders are accepted to their first-choice high school while maintaining their genuine enthusiasm for learning.
