Weekly View of Why Students Love Learning at AHB

## This Week in 2nd/3rd

Math Ms. Kelly’s math group stayed extra busy this week investigating the number of faces, edges and vertices on different shapes.  They reviewed plane and solid shapes to keep things fresh! These Betas LOVE playing games against the teacher so this week they played a version that required them to get 5 in a row by matching the number of faces with the solid shape…Students won!!🏆 Since these kiddos were in a competitive mood they also played “Beanstick Challenge”. They were given a sum and needed to figure out what bean sticks were needed to make that sum – sounds […]

## This Week in K/1st

Larry Pranks Continue This week, Larry was on FIRE! He hid the teacher-chairs, AND, he switched all the South room tables with the North! Thank you all for the cardboard donations! Next week will be putting our geometric knowledge to good use as we construct our Leprechaun Traps! This Week in Theme We traveled southeast to the Gulf Coast! We learned about the special areas where freshwater from rivers mingle with the salty waters of the gulf, estuaries. These areas provide nurseries for many species of animals including red drum fish and blue crabs. In a demonstration of the density

## Middle School: Week of Jan 23

Math Monday, Zoomshrooms had a lesson on converting fractions, decimals, and percents. Tuesday and Wednesday they practiced those skills independently with a solve and color, a matching worksheet, and a modified Go-Fish game. They were diligent workers Tuesday and Wednesday which allowed me to give our Gamma shadow students their own lessons on percents. Thursday we had a lesson on bonds and asset allocation. They spent time researching bonds and when and why they should invest in them. Shockwave students started the week by recalling formulas. As a class we wrote the area formulas for squares, rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and

Update It was a big week for Year 2 Gammas as we began our shadow days upstairs in the Delta class. We also had a prospective student shadow one day so there were lots of “firsts” going on in Gamma-land this week. We hosted parent support night on Wednesday and then headed off to a perfect-weather Shipe Park on Thursday. Memorable Moments We tried a new morning community game called “Bob or Flop!” The Gammas wrote down a song/artist and we mixed them up in a bag. Next, we drew songs and cued them up on the classroom speaker. If

Math Math looked a little different this week as we didn’t have Ms. Skylar on Monday or Tuesday and several kiddos were also out – so we combined math groups! Second year Betas played multiplication fluency games while the first years had lessons on elapsed time. As a whole group they needed to come up with a creative word problem for the answer of 94 cows, and these math wizzes didn’t disappoint! Upon Ms. Skylar’s return her group focused on partial products and were introduced to the standard algorithm for two digit by one digit multiplication and they grasped that
