AHB teachers strive to assign homework that is relevant,
meaningful, and appropriate for each child's ability. Homework is
assigned on Thursdays (with the exception of unfinished homework
& on-going weekly assignments in Gamma) and are due the
following Tuesday (unless otherwise specified by a teacher.)
Students should be able to complete their homework within*:
Alpha 1
- 3 hours*
Beta 3 - 5
hours*
Gamma 5 - 7 hours**
* Some skills (such as math facts) require
regular practice to master, and this time is not included
above. In general, this does not exceed 15 minutes, 3 - 5
times per week, and many different options for this practice are
provided by teachers in order to accommodate a variety of interests
and learning styles.
** For Gamma students, this homework allotment does include the
on-going weekly reading, journaling, or math journal updates.
Occasionally, additional homework may also be assigned in
preparation for optional tournaments/outside competitions or to
work on projects.
Because of the shorter amount of time in school, homework
completion is important to each child's success. Parents are asked
to commit to helping ensure their child is returning homework that
is on-time, neat, complete, and shows effort in its completion.
