Afternoon Community Classes (ACC)

Extra-Curricular

With a part-time school schedule, many of our students pursue extra-curricular interests in the evenings or on off-days. Some of our students are involved with club sports, instrumental music, scouting, etc.

Though we do not offer separate art, music, or P.E. classes during our school day, we incorporate artistic and kinesthetic activities into other activities within our classrooms. In addition, AHB's Afternoon Community Classes are available (for an additional fee) to our students from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The classes offered are based on parent request, but generally consist of art, PE, community outreach, and more! See a few of our Community Class listings below for details on what AHB students have enjoyed this school year.

2012-2013 ACC Course Offerings

ACC classes are held from 2:30-3:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays by Valerie, Courtney and Anneke

Q1 - Fine Art & Fun!

Join us as we view the world from an artist's perspective!  We will dive into basic fine arts concepts such as line, value, color theory, proportion, perspective just to name a few.  We will explore and model different techniques used by famous painters including Botticelli, Rembrant, Monet and Kandinksy.

Q2 - Acting/Drama

What better way to express oneself than by becoming a performer!  We will study basic fundamentals of theater including performance, improvisation, stage space, costume and makeup, and lighting and design.  At the end of the quarter, we will perform a short rendition of a student selected or created play.

Q3 - Music

This stimulating class will help build a foundation in basic musical principles.  We will introduce various instruments for students to explore, singing technique and we will even create a choir.  The purpose of this class will be to nurture and enhance each child's potential as a musician.

Q4 - Three-Dimensional

Students will spend the quarter planning, developing and creating a project in 3-D.  Based on the previous 3 topics explored, we will study and experiment what it means to create a modeled structure.  Whether it is a set design, stage setting for a musical or a model of a dollhouse, the idea, parts and pieces will be generated completely by the students.  The media used will include clay, wood, recycled materials, and possibly glass and metals (Val has a strong background in the latter).

$1000 annual tuition. Payment plans are available.
