Walk into AHB Community School and you have walked into an
environment that radiates warmth. Our small, family-like atmosphere
gives students an opportunity to closely bond with creative,
nurturing adults and a great group of children - not only their
classmates, but their younger and older schoolmates as well. This
bond creates a feeling of safety, comfort, and confidence that is
seldom found in school settings. Kids actually ENJOY coming to
school here!
At AHB, we do not organize children by age or grade level. Each
class usually consists of children in two grade levels, and the
kids are not singled out by grade. As a school, we refer to our
class groupings as Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. Each year the students
are given the opportunity to name their own classes based on a
combination of favorite endangered animals. We have had Snow
Sharks, Poison Otters, and Orpicats, to name a few!
We also make sure there is frequent interaction between all of
our students with presentations and whole-school activities.
Students in our Beta and Gamma rooms enjoy lunch and recess
together under the supervision of a fantastic PE coach, who leads
games along with a generous parent volunteer. These essential
aspects of AHB promote a sense of community and avoid an emphasis
on age or grade.
